Ridge Shadows is located about one hour outside the Washington,
DC metropolitan area and about 40 minutes from Dulles International
Airport. Seated at the eastern most entrance of the Skyline Drive
National Park, we are in a historical and scenic part of Northern
Virginia in Warren
County near the town of Front Royal.
Incorporated in 1788, the town of Front
Royal has played a significant rold in our country's
history. There is a world of intrigue and learning awaiting both
the amateur and avid history buffs. While the area is well-known
for the Battle of Front Royal during the Civil War, May 23, 1862,
there is a great deal more history to be discovered in and around
the town.
Front Royal offers a wonderful
setting to visit and to live. There are events for everyone
to enjoy from weekly concerts at the gazebo to exquisite dining
at one of many locally owned restaurants. You won't find the
rushed lifestyle from Washington DC here....but would you
really want to?
People from all over travel here
to see the beautiful natural landscaping that has remained
untouched. Front Royal is the canoe capital of Virginia and
the host town of many recreational activities.
Soon to become a golfing destination,

Prospect Hill Cemetery
200 W. Prospect Street |
(540) 635-5468 |
| At the entrance to the
cemetery is the Mosby Monument. This monument, erected
in 1899, commemorates the lives of seven John S. Mosby's
Rangers who were executed in Front Royal in September
of 1864. General Grant, who was frustrated by the daring
raids made by Mosby's Rangers in the Northern Shenandoah
Valley, issued the order to immediately hang any of
Mosby's men who were captured. The seven men commemorated
on this monument died as a result of the order. On a
circular lot at the top of the hill, known as Soldier's
Circle, lay the remains of 276 soldiers representing
each of the thirteen states of the Confederacy. From
this hill, Stonewall Jackson directed his troops during
the Battle of Front Royal on May 23, 1862.
